I want to stop relaxing my hair and want to go curly. The problem is my hair doesn't naturally go curly. It's just very very thick and frizzy.
Years ago I had a Carefree curl and had it cut very short.........as long as I kept it short it eventually stayed curly without any chemicals.
My goal is to get that curl back without cutting my hair short. It's currently mid-length. Can I/should I get a Carefree curl again? If so, how long do I have to wait after relaxing?
By the way, I'm mixed race and my hair is softer than typical afro hair.

It is vital that you protect your hair during the growing out process back to its natural state to avoid breakage which would render you having to cut your hair short eg cut all the process lengths back to the new hair growth.
By using the right products you would be able to avoid the frizz you mentioned and obtain a more define curl. Use shampoos and conditioners rich in moisture, followed by at least once a month intensive treatment until all the relaxer has grown out.
If you do decide to have a curly perm again it is unlikely that you will be able to have it without cutting your hair back to the regrowth line. Another tip would be to set your hair in small rollers to dry and not to blow dry it.
This would assist the prevention of breakage and give you an ideal curl.
